My older brother and I have an inside joke about Rocket Christmas. So for christmas 11' I wanted to make him a poster of us participating in such intergalactic merriment. I started with a pencil drawing on bristol.
Below is the linework I recreated in illustrator. CS5 has some amazing tools that gave the me the ability to get expressive with the varying line widths. You may notice I later edited my brother's facial expression. He looked a little too pissed off so I gave him a more mischievous galavanting look.
I wanted to go with a simple color pallet so I chose three basic colors (forest green, ice blue, and blood red) and used a small variation of shades in order to color the whole piece.

Time to put us in space. I used a dot pattern in the background to offset the deep blue of the infinity behind us. I also added a thicker stroke around the entire shape of the two characters and the rocket to help bring them into the foreground.
In case no one gets the concept I've added some pretty clear labels in order to get across what exactly is happening. [CTRL] + [P]
